♡ YOUR GUIDE TO WEARING WIGS IN 2021 ♡

Prepping your Natural Hair

Step OneStyle your hair in two French braids. The aim is to get your hair to sit as flat as possible underneath your wig so try to make them as tight and neat as possible.

Step TwoPosition the length of your braids up and evenly across your head then pin into place.

Step ThreeApply your wig cap and make sure to tuck in all those baby hairs.

Step FourUsing a foundation brush, apply a small amount of foundation to your wig cap around the hairline and where your wig part will sit.

This will help to blend the wig cap with your skin and ensure your colour matches perfectly.

Your hair is now prepped and ready to apply your lace front wig.

PREPPING YOUR WIG

When prepping a brand new wig, especially if you’re a beginner, there is a bit of back and forth to get things looking perfect and we do recommend setting aside a bit of time to spend on this task. Adequate time and care spent prepping and finishing your wig will make such a difference and it’s not a task to be rushed.

Step OneRemove your wig from the packaging and give her a good brush! We recommend a detangle brush or a wide tooth comb. Try to avoid brushes with beads on the bristles or anything that could tug on and ruin the lace.

Step TwoNow let’s adjust the fit of your wig.Start by adjusting the elastic on your wig to the first setting.

Next, apply your wig. We find the easiest way to do this without help is to flip your head forward, line up the front of the wig with your hairline and then pull the wig cap over your head and down to the nape of your neck.. kind of like putting on a swimming cap.

Now that you have your wig on, flip your head (and wig) back up.

Don’t worry too much about the messy hair, this part is about adjusting the fit of your wig.

Now that your wig is on, you’ll quickly be able to tell if your wig fits you nice and snug or whether you need to go back and adjust those elastic settings for a tighter fit.

Repeat these steps until you have a nice snug fit. You want your wig to feel nice and secure but not so tight that it could cause any discomfort.

Step ThreeCutting the lace.

The first thing I want to touch on is that there are many different ways to cut the lace on your wig.

Every wig wearer will have their preferred way and a lot of different factors come in when choosing how to cut your lace.

I would highly recommend heading to YouTube and watching a few tutorials to see which way you think you’ll like best.

After all, once the lace is cut, there’s no going back!

The way I will guide you in this tutorial is my preferred way to cut the lace and the easiest way I find especially for beginners. Start by laying your wig on a flat surface.

Using a pair of sharp scissors, very carefully cut the lace as close to the hairline as possible.

Once you have removed the lace, put your wig back on and check for any adjustments that need to be made.

Some people like to customise the shape of the hairline to better match their own and some people may need to cut extra hair and lace away from the area around the ears.

But generally you can get away with just following along the wigs hairline.

APPLYING YOUR WIG

Now it’s time to apply and secure your wig!

Step OneDo a quick check of your wig cap and make sure all those baby hairs are tucked away.

Apply your wig the same way we did before.

Flip your head forward, line up the front of the wig with your hairline and then pull the wig cap over your head and down to the nape of your neck.

Flip your head back up and then adjust your wig so that it’s sitting correctly and the wig part is sitting where it’s supposed to.

Step TwoGive your wig a good brush to smooth it down.

Next, feel around for the slide combs on the inside of the wig around the temple area.

Once you find them, slide the combs into your natural hair to help secure your wig.

STYLING YOUR WIG

Step OneBrush your hair once again and use a tail comb to neaten up your part area.

Step TwoUsing your hair dryer on a low heat and speed setting gently warm up the root area of your wig, holding your hair dryer in the direction you want the hair to fall.

This will help to re direct the hair to sit in a more natural state and not look so ‘wiggy’.

Do this for the entire hand tied lace section of your wig.

Trust me, the difference is amazing!

Step ThreeBrush through your wig one final time, style as desired and you’re now ready to show off your new look!
